Playa de Las Americas (Arona):

Playa de Las Americas is a popular tourist destination located on the south coast of the island of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands of Spain. With its year-round warm climate, beautiful golden sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, this area is a paradise for surfers.

Surfing in Playa de Las Americas is quite complex, as you can encounter waves of all types since, as you will see below, there are more than 8 peaks or spots to surf here. Depending on your ability and courage you can surf in some places or others, as there are very difficult peaks and other easier ones … . The waves are known for their consistency and quality, which allows you to enjoy high quality surfing sessions in different conditions.

Surfers can enjoy a wide range of surfing modalities in Playa de Las Americas, such as classic surfing, bodyboarding and stand-up paddle (SUP) .

This beach is the most famous beach in Tenerife, one of the best surf spots in Tenerife, and is recognized worldwide for a 5 star beach with a rocky bottom where you can find all kinds of waves.

In addition you can observe both peaks to give surf lessons for beginners, to peaks for intermediate levels.

The first wave we can find is called LA FITENIA: it is a surf spot near a dyke, in front of the restaurant San Borondón and breaks next to the dyke, it is usually surfed in the summer months as the perfect direction for this wave is coming from the south (S, SW, SE). It is a wave both left and right and is not usually very crowded, ideal for beginners and intermediate levels. Here you can enjoy a beer in the bar next door, while enjoying your summer vacation and at the same time watch the surfers a few meters from you catching waves. It is a unique experience, and who knows, maybe you will be encouraged to give some surfing lessons because the atmosphere encourages you to do it!

A few meters from this spot we have a magnificent right, a super long and noble wave. It is called YEFRYS: it is not usually very crowded, a perfect wave for advanced surfers, it is a long wave where you have to leave the peak quickly to pass the section. This wave can be surfed both in winter and summer, but it is more common to see it work in summer. This wave is a right hand wave, where you have to be careful with the rocks, as in all Tenerife South, is a volcanic bottom not sand.

About 3 minutes walk along the promenade we can find the next spot called EL DEDO a wave that usually works in winter, is a very local wave, if you do not have enough level we do not recommend you to enter because it can be very dangerous for you and for other surfers.

It is a left and right wave, depending on the direction of the sea may be a better choice one or the other!

We recommend that you go with a surf instructor as the peak breaks directly on the rocks and there is a strong current that you must know. It is a wave that works with incoming swell from north, northeast.

Next spot that we can find is pools, a wave for beginners but when you want to give war gives it. Then we find LA DERECHA: a perfect right wave, sometimes the left comes out but it is very dangerous. A VERY LOCAL wave you can not enter if you are not accompanied, people take it very seriously, please be careful.

Then we found one of the most crowded waves of the beach, EL MEDIO: it is a perfect left and right wave, it does not have much power and allows you to train all kinds of tricks because it has a wall and is very long. It is a wave for beginners at the bottom and for advanced riders at the top of the peak.

And finally we find the most famous wave of the island THE SPANISH LEFT, a very local wave that you can only enjoy from outside watching the locals ride it.

ALCALÁ(PUNTA BLANCA): Another of the best surf spots in Tenerife, this wave is a very crazy wave located in the town of Alcalá, we recommend to go with an instructor because we do not want conflict and we want to respect its rpivacidad, if you want to know the wave please contact us!

LAS GALLETAS: It is a super local wave, is located in the town of cookies, is a beach of difficult access, usually works with swells (S, SW, SE).

El Medano: It is a beach located 15 minutes drive from Las Galletas and it is a wave where windsurfers usually practice windsurfing, because of its wind. But it is also a perfect place to learn to surf in Tenerife, as it does not usually have a very strong swell and the beaches are sandy! It is a beach where you will find windsurfing or kitesurfing above all, but it is also common to practice surfing in El Medano, moreover, if you ask us, we can give a special class in a secret spot that only wildsurf people know. Its sandy bottom makes the waves break with less force and we can give some very, very fun surfing lessons!
